ACTIVITY PROGRAM
Our extracurricular activity program is very popular. It makes our Spanish programs not merely language courses, but offer you a complete immersion into Guatemalan culture and life. Every week there are about 3-4 organized activities accompanied by our staff who are happy to explain new and hidden aspects of things you may never have seen before. We also try to make it as varied as possible to offer something for everyone. Typically there will be a sports activity, an excursion to a nearby village, a visit to a cultural center or museum and a culture class at the school. If there is a local festival or celebration happening we include that in the activity program, give detailed explanations about them and make sure you get to experience them in the traditional ways. Once a week we go out in the evening together Pub Night to relax and get to know each other. While the activities are completely voluntary everybody likes them. We want CDL Spanish School to be place where you come not just to learn Spanish but where you can also make friends and be part of a group if you want to. The most recent addition to our school is our dance studio where we give our fun Salsa Classes every Tuesday. Both teachers and students participate. Perhaps you will be bitten by the dance bug like many other students! If salsa is something that you want to do intensively, don´t forget to check out our Spanish & Salsa program. Our Student Services Coordinator will also be happy to point you to other culture activities organized by galleries and culture centers: art exhibitions, museums, concerts, theater, street shows and celebrations.
Some examples of extracurricular activities:• Visit to local NGOs • Visit womens weaving cooperative
• Cooking classes • Visit Maximón, the Mayan saint
• Jade factory • Life of a campesino (farmer)
• Football games • Visits to coffee plantations
• Horseback riding • Legends of Guatemala
The activities are for free or have a small fee (change for bus fare or entrance fees). They are always accompanied by a staff member of the school so you can chat about what you are experiencing and make sure you get where you need to be.
